Aerial photographic surveys
– offer a practical alternative to traditional inspection methods, with benefits in safety, speed and cost. DDP specialises in these surveys; see our **link** blog for examples.
Traditionally, roof inspections involved erecting scaffolding or accessing roofs through hatches. Scaffolding can be costly, while working at height carries significant risks. Ground-based inspections using binoculars are safe but can miss important details. Aerial surveys provide clear views of otherwise difficult-to-access areas. The image below shows a blocked drainage gutter on a church tower, which would have been impossible to see from the ground.

Here is another example where a close up image from the air was able to show the importance of an urgent repair, something not obvious from the ground.

Aerial architectural photography
– captures striking images of buildings from carefully chosen viewpoints. Taking photographs from the air allows precise control of composition while avoiding ground-level distractions such as parked cars, signs and street furniture. These images can support marketing, social media and can also be used behind projected worship song lyrics. I can also offer prints which you could sell to help with a fundraising initiative.

The vicar of Clitheroe St Mary’s wanted a photograph of the west end of his church, a view made impossible by the large tree to the west of the building.
Tracking building project progress
– benefits from the consistency of drone photography. Modern drone images are geolocated, allowing one to return to the same position, height and angle to capture comparable photographs as work progresses.
These are just three examples of how aerial photography can support churches communities and charities. If you have a project you feel could benefit from aerial photography please get in touch and we can discuss how we might work together. And remember all DDP’s work for churches and charities is carried out on a non-profit basis, helping make the benefits of aerial photography accessible to a wider audience.
